Officials of the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department on Sunday met His Holiness Dalai Lama in Bengaluru and invited him for inaugurating the 2nd Global Peace Buddhist Heritage Festival in Amaravati, proposed to be held this December.
A.P. Tourism’s Regional Director R. Mallikarjun Rao, along with CEO of the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati E. Sivanagi Reddy requested him to grace the occasion.
They said the spiritual guru said he would consider the invitation and suggested the officials to invite Buddhist scholars and scientists of quantum physics from all over the world for the festival and organise an international seminar on Acharya Nagarjuna’s philosophy. He also said the event should be inclusive of leaders from different faiths.
The spiritual guru was briefed through a presentation about the previous year’s festival and its features such as Shanti Yatra and discourses by Buddhist acharyas.
A Budha Jayanthi souvenir edited by A.P. Assembly Deputy Speaker Mandali Budha Prasad, Mr. Nagireddy and Mr.Rao was released by the spiritual leader.
