Motorcyclist killed, cyclist seriously injured in highway crashes
A motorcyclist in his 50s died after a four-wheel-drive crashed into his bike from behind on a highway at Goomeri, west of Gympie, on Sunday.
Queensland Police said the man was riding in a group of motorcyclists north on the Burnett Highway.
The rider was turning into Boonah Road when a four-wheel-drive behind him crashed into the motorbike.
The man died at the scene, and the Forensic Crash Unit was investigating.
In an unrelated incident, a cyclist was struck by a vehicle in Caboolture on Sunday afternoon, at the intersection of Norfolk Esplanade and Boongaree Avenue.
Police said the cyclist exited Boongaree Avenue and collided with a station wagon just after 4pm, hitting the front of the car and landing on the road.
The 24-year-old Clayfield man was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a serious condition.
Investigations were continuing.
After a third serious crash, on the Bruce Highway at Bald Hills on Sunday, a 71-year-old male motorcyclist and a 37-year-old driver were taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital with serious injuries.
Police said investigations indicated a northbound car had lost control and crossed into southbound lanes at 3.15pm.
The Bruce Highway was closed for hours and several motorists were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
