Wayne Rooney produced a moment of magic as his side DC United secured a thrilling last-minute victory against Orlando City in Major League Soccer (MLS).

With the scores level at 2-2 in the 96th minute, United keeper David Ousted went forward for a corner searching for the winner. However, the ball was cleared and Orlando’s Will Johnson broke away and had an open goal at his mercy.

Then along came Rooney. Sprinting back into his own half the former Manchester United and England icon, 32, caught up with Johnson, made a crunching tackle to win the ball then provided an inch-perfect cross for Luciano Acosta to head home his hat-trick goal and DC United’s winner.

“That’s amazing. Truly amazing,” said USA Today’s MLS reporter Ryan Phillips.
