Former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee died on Monday at the age of 89 after suffering a massive heart attack.

Chatterjee was on ventilation for the past two days, going through dialysis in a private hospital in Kolkata.

The veteran parliamentarian breathed his last at 8.10 am. He was suffering from a kidney-related ailment and was admitted to Belle Veu Clinic in Kolkata on Tuesday.

A ten-time MP, Chatterjee was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2009.
