Workshop on gender sensitivity held at MNNIT

ALLAHABAD: A one day workshop on gender sensitivity at workplace was organised by women advisory cell of MNNIT-Allahabad, on Saturday.

Chief guest on the occasion, Amitabha, DRM Allahabad division discussed about two aspects of women safety in an organisation (legal as well as organisational aspect). He talked about various punitive measures which can be taken against harassment cases. He also cited references from his own division.

Keynote speaker at the event was Dr Anju Gupta, director NCWEB, Delhi University, who shared various instances of harassment cases of different complainants. She appealed to female audiences to be aware of surroundings and speak out of any harassment they came across. To the male participants she suggested that they must acknowledge the emotional, personal and behavioural dimension of working with women. She also made an appeal to all women to educate men around them for proper conduct.

The workshop was inaugurated by director of the institute, Prof Rajeev Tripathi. In his address, he said that self-discipline is crucial and a system should be in place for recognising the social issues. He informed with pride that not a single case of harassment has been reported in the Institute. Prof Tripathi emphasised the need to understand the importance of equality and respect and sought cooperation from all to maintain a healthy environment in the Institute and society.

Prof Geetika, chairperson women advisory cell and dean (R&C) elaborated the meaning of harassment to the audience and its impact on the women. She discussed the problem of gender discrimination and sexual harassment at workplace. She also highlighted employer and employee responsibilities related to gender sensitivity.

Earlier, in the beginning Prof Vijaya Bhadauria, head ECE and chief warden girls hostel highlighted the main objective of the workshop and informed the audience about the self defence programme conducted in MNNIT-A campus for girls. Coordinator Prof Richa Negi presented vote of thanks to all those present.

This workshop was preceded by two week's self-defence training programme for female students which concluded on Saturday.
