NEW DELHI: Equity markets on Monday turned negative on back of global cues following a rout in the Turkish currency lira.

Sensex lost 224.33 points to close at 37,644.90 while the broader 50-share NSE
Nifty finished at 11,355.75, down 73.75 points. The indices traded in this range almost throughout the day.
In morning trading, the
rupee also hit an all-time low of 69.62 against the US dollar.

The state-run banks bore the maximum brunt with the Nifty PSU Bank sub-index losing 3.22 per cent. Financial service and metal sub-indices also lost considerably. Nifty IT gained 1.50 per cent
