SA A post 294/7 against India A

Bengaluru: India A Pacer Ankit Rajpoot grabbed two wickets to reduce South Africa A to 294 for 7 at stumps on a rain-marred day 3 as the second unofficial Test headed towards a draw here on Sunday. South Africa A are now trailing India A by 51 runs as only 32.4 overs were bowled on Sunday with rains with rains playing spoilsport in the morning and post-tea sessions. Play was possible in the middle session where India A dominated the proceedings as they bagged four wickets, out of which Rajpoot claimed two. First Rajpoot removed Dussen for 22 and then claimed the wicket of Second for 47, leaving the visitors at 236 for 5. The other two wickets were claimed by Jayant Yadav and Mohammad Siraj, dismissing Dwaine Pretorious (10) and Dane Piedt (22) respectively. At the draw of stumps, Senuran Muthusamy was batting on 23 after facing 63 deliveries.

Vijay out of quadrangular a series

NEW DELHI: Injured Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar has been ruled out of the upcoming Quadrangluar A Series involving India (A and B), South Africa A and Australia A, starting August 17. The all-rounder is suffering from a left hamstring injury and undergoing rehab at NCA, Bengaluru. "Vijay Shankar was part of the India B squad in the Quadrangular series. However the Senior Selection Committee has reached a consensus that there won't be a replacement for Shankar in the India B squad," acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary said.

Anand tied fourth at rapid chess

St Louis: Five times world champion Viswanathan Anand had a mixed opening day with a win, a loss and a draw in the St Louis rapid and blitz chess event that got underway here. Starting off with a brilliant victory over Hikaru Nakamura of United States, Anand missed the thread against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France in the second round and then settled for a draw with Sergey Karjakin of Russia to end the day on three points out of a possible six. With two points for a victory in the rapid section being the award here, Fabiano Caruana of United States became a runaway leader on six points winning all his three games.

Madappa wins Asian Tour title

bengaluru: Twenty-year-old Viraj Madappa delighted the home crowd with a four-under-par 67 to claim a two-shot victory at the TAKE Solutions Masters here on Sunday, becoming the youngest Indian golfer to win on the Asian Tour. Madappa, who came through the Asian Tour Qualifying School in January, got his big professional breakthrough at the Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) Golf Course here.The earlier record was held by Gaganjeet Bhullar, who won the Indonesia Invitational, when he was 21 years and three months, while Shubhankar Sharma won Joburg Open when he was 21 years and five months old.
