MUMBAI: Nine days after a bullet was fired at a scrap dealer from Marol, a resident of
Agripada, near
Byculla, has been arrested for allegedly plotting the crime. The accused, Shikand Sayyed Saha (54), had allegedly paid contract money (supari) to two men, one of whom fired at Aslam Khan (52) on August 4.
The police said that Saha and Khan, who are into scrap business, had had a dispute over payment of interest on a loan. "Saha had hired the two men," said an officer from MIDC police station, adding that Khan's family gave them a tip which led to the arrest.
Khan had parked his Mercedes near his building when two men arrived on a bike and the pillion rider fired at Khan.
The police said that Saha had loaned a certain amount to Khan's friend. "It was repaid with interest, but Saha was demanding extra interest," said a police officer.
Saha, who was picked up on Friday, has revealed the names of the two who tried to bump off Khan. He is in police custody.
A police team has fanned out of Mumbai to nab the two assailants who are on the run. They hail from outside
Maharashtra. "Details of the supari amount that was paid will be known once these two are traced," said an officer.
The two assailants had kept a close watch on Khan's daily schedule and the route that he used to take while commuting from Marol to his scrapyard in Byculla and back. Khan, who has undergone surgery, has been discharged from hospital.
