Bhopal, Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijaya Singh has begun the process of vacating his government bungalow in the state capital.
Sources said that Mr Singh’s belongings were loaded in three trucks and sent to his hometown Raghogarh in Guna district. The bungalow would be vacated soon.
Hearing a petition recently, the High Court had directed that bungalows allotted to former chief ministers be vacated. Subsequently, the Home Department issued an order in this regard.
Sources said that Mr Singh had penned a missive to the Chief Secretary that he enjoyed the status of a cabinet minister in his capacity as a former chief minister and has been provided official staff.
He requested that some arrangement be made for his staff since he does not have a private residence in the city. According to sources, the reply to the letter is awaited. The bungalow is still in Mr Singh’s possession.
Besides Mr Singh, former chief ministers Kailash Joshi, Babulal Gaur and Uma Bharti are still residing in their official residences.
