Mercedes-AMG GT Facelift Spotted, Sports Updates Inside And Out

The Mercedes-AMG GT was introduced nearly four years ago and it appears the company is working on a minor facelift for the sports car.

Recently spotted undergoing testing, the updated model has a familiar appearance but it features restyled headlights which are partially hidden by camouflage. Despite this, we can see the updated lighting units have slimmer daytime running lights which double as turn signals.

The rest of the styling largely carries over, but the prototype has been equipped with a new four-tailpipe sports exhaust system and a modified rear bumper. One of the biggest changes is the addition of bumperettes, but hopefully these won’t make it to the production model.

Spy photographers didn’t snap pictures of the interior, but they noted the cabin was camouflaged. This suggests we can expect some minor updates and rumors have suggested the model will receive a new infotainment system with a larger display.

It remains unclear if there will be any performance changes, but the entire GT lineup is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine. The base model currently produces 469 hp (350 kW / 475 PS) and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque, while the GT S has 515 hp (384 kW / 522 PS) and 494 lb-ft (669 Nm) of torque. The GT C boosts that figure to 550 hp (410 kW / 557 PS) and 502 lb-ft (680 Nm) of torque, while the range-topping GT R has 577 hp (430 kW / 585 PS) and 516 lb-ft (699 Nm) of torque.

While it’s possible the various models could receive additional power, the big news will be the additional of a Black Series variant. Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers has previously suggested the model will arrive in 2020 and reports have suggested the car will have over 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS).

A lot of details remain unclear, but the updated AMG GT is expected to be introduced in the second half of 2019 as a 2020 model.
