Kerala Floods: South film actors Kamal Haasan, Suriya, and others donate to CM’s relief fund


In the face of unprecedented floods in Kerala, locals have lost most of their livelihood in the disaster. In order to help those affected to start afresh, Tamil superstar and Makkal Neethi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan has contributed Rs 25 lakh to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

While there was no news on the same from the actor, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s official Facebook page confirmed this.


Apart from Kamal, Vijay TV- the channel that hosts reality show Bigg Boss in Tamil has also contributed Rs 25 lakh to the CM’s relief fund. Pinarayi Vijayan said, “Kamal Haasan has understood the unprecedented situation in Kerala due to the floods, and has given Rs 25 lakh to the relief fund. Vijay TV has also paid Rs 25 lakh.”

The Vishwaroopam star has also requested his fans, party workers and others to donate generously to CM’s relief fund.

Earlier, Kollywood actors Suriya and Karthi too announced that they will donate Rs 25 lakh for the relief measure conducted during the floods. Furthermore, Malayalam actors including Mohanlal and Mammootty took to Facebook to appeal to their fans to support the flood victims. Several other actors including Prithviraj, Aashiq Abu, Manju Warrier, Jayaram, Amala Paul, Asha Sharath appealed to people on the same note.

According to reports, actor Mammootty even visited a relief camp at Puthenvelikkara in Ernakulam on Saturday. Mohanlal shared a photo showing an aerial view of the army undertaking relief operations in Kerala, reports The News Minute.

The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) too donated Rs 10 lakh to the CMDRF two days ago.

So far, the rains have claimed 39 lives and rendered several thousands of people homeless. In Idukki, the opening of all five shutters of the Cheruthoni dam saw the river flow in full spate and ravage nearby settlements. Over 500 relief camps were opened in Ernakulam district to relocate those affected by the floods.
