"Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) will lay a 104 km pipeline in defence areas to provide PNG to Range Hills, Bombay Engineering Group, Aundh station, Military Hospital Khadki, 512 Army Base Workshop, College of Military Engineering, EME workshop and Ammunition factory Khadki, among others,” KCB chief executive officer Amol Jagtap told TOI.
MNGL began laying the pipeline in the civil areas in November 2017. It has completed a 2.6 km pipeline and will lay another 4 km pipeline. “KCB will become the first cantonment in the country to provide piped natural gas in all defence and civil areas,” he said.
Suresh Kamble, elected member, wanted to know whether piped gas will be provided in slum areas. Jagtap said MNGL, as per its policy, does not provide piped gas to slums and servants quarters in defence areas.
Brig P S Jaiswal directed Jagtap to raise this demand at a meeting with MNGL.
V N Venkateswaran, deputy general manager, MNGL, said, “We will provide individual gas connections to 700 houses in civil areas we completed a 2.6 km-long pipeline network. We had applied to KCB to give us permission to lay 104-km pipeline in defence areas and will complete the formalities in a month after getting written permission from KCB. We will start pipeline-laying work by September end."
