FOXBORO – Isaiah Wynn has never backed down from a challenge. In college, at Georgia, that meant playing both left guard and left tackle for the Bulldogs. Wherever his coach needed him, he lined up.

For the Patriots, that means getting a little uncomfortable.

After spending most of the offseason lining up at left tackle, the Patriots first-round pick has been playing right tackle over the last two practices. Wynn not only is playing on the right side for the first time in his career, but he’s doing it with the starting unit.

“I haven’t done it in the past before. This is my first time playing right side. It’s a difference, but you get used to it,” Wynn said. “It’s just everything is flipped around. If you’re right handed, try writing with your left.”

Selected 23rd overall, the Patriots likely have big plans for Wynn. This offseason, they’ve moved him around to multiple spots. Early, he was seen at left guard when Joe Thuney was nursing an injury. When Thuney returned, Wynn spent the first 11 days of camp backing up Trent Brown at left tackle.

With starting right tackle Marcus Cannon currently out with an injury, the Patriots have started to rotate Wynn in with veteran LaAdrian Waddle with the starting offense. Wynn’s versatility could go a long way in the end. This season, he’s giving them another option at right tackle. Although it’s a tough switch from the left side, he said he looks at it as an exciting challenge.

“Yeah of course. I know me. I always want to step up to the plate,” Wynn said. “Whatever challenge it is, I feel good about stepping up to the plate about it. Really, it’s wherever they need me at, I’m going to be at.”
