KOLKATA: Former
Lok Sabha speaker
Somnath Chatterjee was put on ventilator support on Sunday after suffering a mild cardiac arrest in the morning.
His condition is stated to be critical. A multispeciality team of doctors is monitoring his health parameters round-the-clock.
Chatterjee, 89, is suffering from a kidney-related ailment and was admitted to the Belle Veu Clinic here on Tuesday.
Earlier, he was discharged from the hospital on August 1, just a week before his readmission, after 40 days of hospitalisation. Last month, the former speaker had suffered a haemorrhagic stroke.
“Chatterjee is undergoing
dialysis. In such cases it happens at times that the heart stops giving support. He suffered a mild heart attack this morning, but was revived. He is in the ICCU and has been put on ventilation. He is responding to the treatment,” hospital’s CEO Pradip Tandon said.
