The last week has been a tough one for Kerala, with excess rain causing landslips and flooding all over the State. The gates of 24 dams were opened to combat rising water levels. While the situation is not as dire in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana, the gates of several dams have been opened here too, causing flooding in certain districts and flood alerts in others. Here are the top developments.

  1. There was major activity in Telangana, along the Godavari river on Sunday, as three dams opened up their gates.
  2. As many as 10 gates of Telangana's Kadem dam has been opened, releasing 1.25 lakh cusecs of water into the Godavari.
  3. Sripada Yellampalli project in Telangana's Ramagundam mandal also saw dam gates being opened to release water.
  4. Authorities also opened up as many as 16 gates of the Taliperu reservoir at Pedamidisileru in Charla mandal of Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, in Telangana
  5. The Bhadradri-Kothagudem district has continued to receive heavy inflows from the catchment areas spread along the inter-State border with Chhattisgarh.
  6. In Tamil Nadu, Erode district's Bhavani was flooded after discharge from the Mettur dam saw water levels in Cauvery rise
  7. Revenue officials in Tamil Nadu have warned that there is a possibility the water levels could rise and submerge house along the Cauvery river.
  8. In Kerala, dam shutters have begun closing as the water levels dipped.
  9. Two shutters of the Idamalayar dam, opened on August 9, closed on Saturday after water levels dropped below the Full Reservoir Limit of 169 metres.
  10. Both the Kabini and Krishnaraja Sagar dams in Karnataka saw a discharge of 1.4 lakh cusecs on Friday, August 10
  11. A flood alert had been earlier sounded in Mandya district in Karnataka, along the Cauvery river, after the discharge from the Krishnaraja Sagar dam
