Nagpur:
Umtha village in Narkhed tehsil has been awarded with the prestigious Satyamev Jayate
Water Cup award.
The village bagged third position in the state in contest organized by
Paani Foundation for its water conservation activities. The contest was conducted in 30 tehsils of 30 districts in the state. From the district, contest was conducted in Narkhed tehsil in which around 100 villages participated. This is third consecutive year of the contest.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis presented the award to Umtha villagers in a programme held at Pune on Sunday. Leader of opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, NCP leader Ajit Pawar and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
The prize was shared with Anandwadi village in Ashti tehsil of Beed district. Sindkhed village in Motala tehsil, Buldana district and Bhandwali village in Man tehsil, Satara district won first and second prizes, respectively.
Collector Ashwin Mudgal said Umtha will be felicitated on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15. “It is a very big achievement. Umtha is a role model for other villages. They have performed many successful water conservation activities with public participation. NMC Contractors Association and others too helped them in providing machineries,” he said.
Mudgal and predecessor Sachin Kurve extended all the necessary support to the village for executing water conservation activities.
The villagers including women and children had constructed weirs to conserve the rain water. Also, the villagers desilted a lake that bore fruits for entire village.
