GURUGRAM: Four drunk youths allegedly assaulted a grocer and set the tyres of a car on fire after being told by the shop owner that he didn’t stock beer in his store.

All the four accused, residents of Wazipur village, were arrested by Saturday evening on a complaint lodged by the shop owner, Deepak.

According to police, the four youths often held drinking sessions in the open in the village.

According to the complaint filed by Deepak, Avdhesh, a local youth, had come to his shop looking for beer on Friday night.

“It was around 11pm when he came to my shop and asked for beer. He was already drunk and I told him that I didn’t stock beer in my shop. I told him to go but he wouldn’t listen. He went away after sometime and came back with three friends. They attacked me with sharp weapons and set the tyres of my uncle’s car on fire,” the shop owner told police.

A police team rushed to the spot and arrested one of the accused. He led the cops to the other three by Saturday evening.

An FIR has been registered against Avdhesh alias Munna, Deepak Singh, Deepak Kumar and Deepak, all residents of Wazirpur village, under Sections 323 (causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 436 (mischief by fire) of IPC at the Sector 10 A police station.

“We are questioning the four youths. They will be produced in a city court on Sunday,” said Yashwant, the SHO of Sector 10 A police station. “The four youths told us they created a ruckus as they were drunk. They agreed to setting the tyres of a car on fire after pouring liquor on them, but did not know the owner of the car. All the accused are known drunkards and none of the villagers spoke any good about them,” the police officer added.
