Man kills self inside police station in Madhya Pradesh, two cops suspended

The in-charge and a head constable of Bagh police station in Madhay Pradesh’s Dhar district were suspended after a man died inside the police station on Saturday night, police said, with officers claiming that he hanged himself while the family accusing them of beating him up to death.

Bagh town, which is situated around 250km west of state capital Bhopal, remained tense after the incident, and additional force had to be rushed in.

Dhar superintendent of police Virendra Singh said Soheb Khan (25) had been brought to the police station in the evening after he was accused of eve-teasing, and he hanged himself.

He was taken to Barwani town for treatment but he had died by then, the officer added.

“Prima-facie the police station incharge Kamal Singh Pawar and head constable Mangilal Goyal have been found guilty and have been suspended. A full inquiry has been ordered. Video recording of the post mortem is being done,” SP Singh said.

As news of Soheb’s death spread, large number of people from the minority community gheraoed the Bagh police station demanding action against the policemen.

Khan’s uncle Salam Pathan said Soheb was beaten mercilessly which resulted in his death. “We demand that cases be registered against the policemen responsible for his death.”
