The parents of the students of Swami Ram Himalayan University have alleged that the university, violating all norms, has hiked the fees of MBBS course by 300 percent. They informed that university has hiked the fees of State quota MBBS students from ` 4 Lakh to `10 Lakh and All India quota from `5 lakh to `15 Lakh per year.

The patron of the Private Medical University Parents association, Ravindra Jugran said that Supreme Court (SC) ruling clearly states that the fee should be determined by a ‘Fee regulatory committee’ but since the Uttarakhand High Court has cancelled appointment of President of Committee, it is defunct in the State. He said that taking advantage of the situation, the University has steeply hiked the fees claiming that permission for it has been granted by ‘Fee Appellate Authority’. Jugran said earlier too, the private medical colleges of the State had hiked the fees but following the protest by students the State Government ordered its reversal.

He added that the Himalayan University has again increased the fees. Jugran demanded immediate intervention of Governor of Uttarakhand in the issue. “Being the Chancellor of the University, the Governor should take cognisance of this open loot,’’ he said.
