Rolls-Royce With A Surfboard On The Roof Isn’t Something You See Every Day

If you were heading for the surf, what vehicle would you want to mount your board to? A Jeep Wrangler? A restomod Bronco, perhaps? How about a Rolls-Royce?

That may not be something you’d expect to see every day, but that’s just what the automaker is displaying on the Côte d’Azur thus summer.

The surfboard was custom crafted in the UK not by Rolls-Royce itself, but by Woodpop, which evidently works to the same exacting standards as the luxury automaker applies to the interiors of its high-end vehicles. The nine-foot, two-inch board is made of Paulownia timber with American Walnut, Ripple Sycamore, Figured Anigre, and Birch marquetry with 24-carat gold leaf trim.

It was commissioned by a customer who purchased a new Rolls-Royce as well last year at the company’s “hot spot” in Cannes, and who loaned it to the carmaker to display atop a bespoke Ghost at similar events this summer. The luxury sedan, with the board on the roof, have been on show – alongside a new Cullinan, a Phantom, and a Dawn Adamas edition – at the Intercontinental Carlton Hotel overlooking the Boulevard de la Croisette in the French Riviera city known for its glamorous film festival. The selection of its motor cars will now make its way to the exclusive La Reserva golf course on Spain’s Andalusian coast through early September.

“Rolls-Royce Motor Cars prides itself on truly understanding its customers’ lifestyles,” said the brand’s regional director Julian Jenkins. “As such, the marque is uniquely positioned to tailor its presence in these Hot Spots to ensure that they are effortless for both existing and prospective patrons of the brand.”
