CHANDIGARH: A former athlete who cannot use her right hand following a bullet injury she sustained during the firing outside Score discotheque in Sector 8 in 2015 has identified all the accused in the court even as the complainant has turned hostile in the case.

With tears rolling down her cheeks, Shilpa narrated what happened that fateful night as she recorded her statement in the court.

Shilpa, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, said she was waiting for a cab when a group of youths opened fire for being denied entry to discotheque. A bullet hit Shilpa, who was in Chandigarh to get her passport made. She told the court she had been threatened not to record her statement. “I am not even afraid of death. That is the reason I came to record my statement,” she said, adding that she always wanted to serve the country and had a dream of joining the Army. She said her whole life changed after the incident as she has to depend upon others for even eating food.

The court later directed cops to take Shilpa and her mother to the bus stand.

Shilpa was earning over Rs 20,000 by taking tuitions. She had been awarded a Rs 13 lakh scholarship to study in the US after school before the firing ruined her life.

On June 1, 2015, a group of youths started quarrelling with bouncers after they were denied entry around 2am. One of the accused took out a pistol from their car and started firing. One of the bullets hit Shilpa who was standing in the parking lot. She hid inside the club at the time and was later taken to a hospital. Police later booked four accused Lakhwinder Singh of Ferozepur, Sharanpreet Singh of Ludhiana, Kamaldeep Singh of Ferozepur and Kinderveer Singh of Tarn Taran.

The complainant, Surjeet Singh, a bouncer, had turned hostile.
