Tubewell brings splash of joy in tribal village

Can a tube well be a matter of celebration? At Kherwar (tribal) village of 80 houses under Dumri panchayat of Jaspur revenue village in Palamu a new tubewell sunk there is a source of water and joy for the entire population there.

There was no tube well here at all of any kind dead, defunct or dysfunctional.  Locals rely on a well here. They love well water in summer and winter but come rainy season they say the taste of well water is changed and so they pined for it.

This well was not sunk and made operational by installing head, handle, washer, nuts, and platform by drinking water and sanitation office here etc.

This Government office just threw up its hands in despair citing reasons that rock drill boring machine cannot reach this tribal pocket of Jaspur.

Sources said it was DC Palamu Ameet Kumar who asked one aide of a construction agency to help bore a tube well there in this tribal area. The aide approached one of the contractors Mumtaz Khan of Reasonable Enterprise Pvt Ltd. Khan agreed to do this and he finally got it done what the government department of drinking water and sanitation could not do for years and years!

Khan said, “I sent my team here which inspected the site. A government middle school there was selected for this boring. It was a hand boring as heavy machine could not come here because there is no road and there come two rivers to reach Jaspur.”

Sources said as the whole of this region is a high risk zone because of the CPI Maoists who used to hold their utmost influence and pressure here upto two years back any normal going to this Jaspur by any stranger is fraught with danger and so said Khan when he and his co contractor Ram Perwesh Singh went there this Thursday the troops of Metar security camp provided them security in going and coming back from the site of the tube well. None would believe this but this is a hard fact reiterated Khan. He said he would do more such welfare works for the deprived people.

He added tubewell was installed and a cemented platform was raised there. The villagers are too happy to have it. A para teacher of the school at this kherwar hamlet of Jaspur Birender Pratap said it would now be too easier to prepare mid day meal with this water as he and one more para teacher used to remain worried about mid day meal being prepared in this rainy season with well water!

Ward member Chhatu Singh, villagers like Yoginder Singh, Vinod Singh and others just fail to express their happiness to find this tube well in their school now.
