Even a calamity is an opportunity for the business-minded.

The idea was taken to a whole new level by some along the submerged Aluva Manappuram on the banks of the Periyar.

People who came to offer Bali on Saturday morning were received by neatly arranged rows of the submerged Aluva Siva Temple. They were laminated copies of a photo of the temple taken when it was completely submerged on first day of the flooding. And, they were being kept there not as an eye candy but for sale at the rate of ₹30 a copy!

One of the few who were in the ‘business’ said the idea was to cash in on the love of curios and memorabilia-collectors. After all, one never gets to see the Lord Siva so fully submerged, he reasoned as a matter of fact.

While there were only a couple out there to get rich at the expense of the Lord, more may follow suit if the business indeed goes well.
