Nagpur: What happens when a husband and wife fight and the wife leaves in a fit of rage? Her husband naturally tries to bends the situation to his benefit for a luxurious trip to Bangkok with his best friend. Lying about his ailing wife to his boss for a leave, the husband tries to get away with it but is caught in his own trap when his ‘big fat black’ boss decides to pay his ‘sick’ wife a little visit.
With the original wife gone, the desperate husband tries to present a fake wife before him and ends up structuring more lies to cover his original one. The hilarious drama that unfolds afterwards was brilliantly enacted by the actors in a Hindi play ‘Marta Kya Na Karta’ which was staged at Sai Sabhagruha, Shankar Nagar, on Saturday.

The drama, organized by Prayas Bahu-Uddeshiya Sanstha and written and directed by Priyanka Thakur, staged the problems of a man desperately trying to fix his problems in the comical play and humorously encapsulates the tumbling down of his dominoes of lies.

The writer did a splendid job with jotting down a funny script, powerful punch lines complete with quirky twisted lyrics of Bollywood songs.

The protagonists Shantanu Thengdi as himself and Sayali Kubde as ‘Kajal’ were a natural as husband and wife. While he charmed the audience with the enactment of a troubled husband falling all over the place, she was convincing as the confused, stereotypical whiny wife. Shantanu ruled the play like it was his realm with his strong stage presence, and in the frames he was not, the space was filled by the supporting actors excellently.

Pranali Raut, who played the role of a domestic help to the couple ‘Kolhapurchi Sakku Bai’, fit the role of a loud Maharashtrian-over-the-top maid. Her poor English vocabulary laced with a heavy Marathi accent was a treat to watch and almost instantly built a connect with the spectators.

Supporting actors Nikita Thakur, Ashlesha Waghaye, Ashwinin Mandavkar, Siddhant Gautam, Ashu Khatri and Saurabh Masram did a splendid job in the little roles that they played.
