Nagpur: Saturday evening saw music lovers gathering at Scientific Society Hall, Laxmi Nagar, to experience the music of the golden era in Indian cinema where songs of Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar were recreated by Swapnagandha singers in ‘Moods of Golden Era’ concert.
The evening started with one of the most famous songs of Rafi ‘Hui sham unka khayal aa gaya’ retouched by Ajay Deshpande. ‘Jhumka gira re’ by Nikita Joshi, Sameer Upadhyay’s ‘Kabhi kabhi mere dil mein’, Smita Dongaonkar’s ‘In aankhon ki masti ke’, Prakash Deshpande’s ‘Meet na mila re mann ka’, Maaya Saikhedkar’s ‘Tune oh rangeele kaisa jadu kiya’ recreated the magic of the bygone era.

Songs ‘Hui sham unka khayal aa gaya’, ‘Raat ka samaa sune chandrama’, ‘Likha hai teri aankhon mein’, ‘Ab ke savan saawan mein’, ‘Kaanchi re kaanchi re’, ‘Tere bina zindagi se shikwa’ and ‘Bahut shukriya badi meherbani’ filled the air with romance.

Duets ‘Chura lia hai tumne jo dil ko’ by Upadhyay and Joshi, ‘Jane ja dhundta phir raha’ by Prakash Deshpande and Nikita Joshi, ‘Dekha kasam se’ by Saikhedkar and Deshpande showed the beautiful coordination between the singers and the orchestra. Ending on a good note all the singers sang the famous song ‘Baar baar haan’ from the movie ‘Lagaan’.

The singers were supported by keyboard artiste Parimal Joshi, Pankaj Yadav on dholak and tabla, Gaurav Tanksale on guitar, Akshay Harle and Nilesh Gawai on octopad and saxophone respectively. Host Namrata Agnihotri beautifully explained the story behind each song.
