GUWAHATI: Four defence personnel from Assam, including two who were part of the Kargil War, have written to President Ram Nath Kovind after failing to get their names enlisted in the final draft of NRC published on July 30. The four personnel are Azmal Haque (50), Samsul Haque (57), Sadullah Ahmed (49) and Sana Ullah (51).
"It's very unfortunate. I think the authorities have not done their work properly. Why genuine Indian people have been left out? Is this what we deserve after serving the nation? We are very hurt," said Azmal, whose son and daughter are also missing from the final NRC draft. Azmal is a resident of Chhaygaon in Kamrup district.

Samsul, who is from Barpeta district, said, "I joined IAF in 1979 and served the nation for 35 years. But today, I am struggling to prove my nationality. I feel cheated."
