Man held for burning copy of Constitution

NEW DELHI: Two days after a group of men was seen burning a copy of the Constitution at Parliament Street, the person who organised the protest march has been arrested and booked under stringent sections of Prevention of Insults of National Honour Act and Indian Penal Code.
The protest against amendments in SC/ST Act was organised by the accused, Deepak Gaur, who heads Youth Equality Foundation (Azad Sena) and Arakshan Virodhi Party, and Abhishekh Shukla, founder of Arakshan Virodhi Party.

A complaint had been registered on a complaint by one Anil Tanwar who had also provided the viral video of the incident in which a book was being burnt amid chanting of slogans against SC/ST Act, Dr B R Ambedkar and the Constitution.

DCP (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said that a team was constituted to raid the residences of the culprits in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. “All were found absconding from their homes. Gaur was finally apprehended from Faridabad,” he added.

Earlier, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had tweeted: “Absolutely shocking that Constitution of India burnt at Jantar Mantar in police presence and no action taken. Is BJP govt in collusion?”
