Ahmedabad: The Gujarat high court on Friday stayed the state government’s decision that Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) can get admission only in the NRI quota in MBBS courses.A bench headed by the chief justice stayed a letter by the government to the Admission Committee for the Professional Medical Courses. Now, NRI students or OCIs living in Gujarat for more than a decade can get admission in all categories.
Two OCIs approached the HC for admission in the state quota and demanded domicile certificates for admission to the MBBS course. US-born Arushi Sevak and UK-born Bhavan Naik are facing a problem getting admission in the state quota after the state government made domicile certificates mandatory for such admissions. Meanwhile, the state government on Friday submitted before the court that the students’ case will be considered by the admission committee, subject to their getting domicile certificates
