With many parts of the State facing water shortage despite heavy rains in some districts, the government has decided to send a team to Israel to study the implementation of micro irrigation and the lands under cultivation of both agriculture and horticulture crops in that country.
Manoj Rajan, managing director and CEO, Rashtriya e-Market Services (ReMS), and Additional Secretary Cooperation Department, will head a committee of officials to study the Israel model of drip irrigation.
Chied Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, in his budget, had allocated ₹300 crore for replicating the Israeli model of irrigation in 10,000 hectares of dryland in each of the parched districts of Kolar, Chitradurga, Koppal, Gadag, Uttara Kannada, Tumakuru, Yadgir, and Haveri, in two phases.
Speaking to presspersons on Friday, the CM argued that adopting the Israeli model would protect crops and make the lives of farmers better. He had visited the country last year and studied the farm practices there.
