Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said here on Saturday that he had been invited to the swearing-in of Imran Khan as Pakistan’s Prime Minister, and he planned to attend the function in Islamabad on August 18.

Mr. Sidhu said he had informed the Union Home Ministry and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s office about his plan.

The secretary (Protocol), Punjab, had been asked to take formal action on his visit. He had spoken to former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev, who, too, had received the invitation.

Personal invitation

Mr. Sidhu said he received an invitation from the secretariat of the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.

“Apart from this, Mr. Khan extended a personal invitation to me over the phone, which I have accepted in all humility,” he said.

Mr. Sidhu said that during the brief conversation, Mr. Khan thanked him for praising him in press communiques.

“The invitation from the office of the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf mentions that the secretariat of the chairman will contact me in connection with attending the ceremony and making adequate arrangements,” he said.
