34 kms of new Rly lines laid in C’garh in last four years

A total of 34 kms of new railway lines had been laid in Chhattisgarh between 2014 to June 30, 2018, the Union Railway Ministry has informed.

Nationally, a total of 2,574 kms of new railway lines have been commissioned during the aforesaid period (i.e. in 4 years and 3 months).

Railways have taken up 180 new track projects in various States which are in various stages of execution. This includes 18 in Andhra Pradesh, 15 in Assam & Northeast Region, 34 in Bihar, 8 in Chattisgarh, 1 in Delhi, 4 in Gujarat, 7 in Haryana, 4 in Himachal Pradesh, 1 in Jammu & Kashmir, 14 in Jharkhand, 16 in Karnataka, 2 in Kerala, 12 in Maharashtra, 8 in Madhya Pradesh, 10 in Odisha, 6 in Punjab, 10 in Rajasthan, 8 in Tamil Nadu, 9 Telangana, 3 in Uttarakhand, 15 in Uttar Pradesh and 18 in West Bengal. Some of the projects fall in more than one State, the Ministry informed.

Most of new line projects have been taken up primarily on socio-economic considerations in backward and remote areas for speedy development of economically backward areas.

Completion of railway projects requires clearances from various departments of State Government and Central Ministries like acquisition of land, statutory clearances like forestry and wildlife, shifting of utilities etc, the Ministry informed.
