CHENNAI: The temperature fell by 4°C on Friday after two weeks of sweltering heat.
The maximum temperature in the past two weeks was in the range of 36° to 38° Celsius. Thanks to cloud cover that lasted through the day, the maximum temperature on Friday dipped to 33.1° Celsius (one degree below normal).
The minimum temperature, recorded just before sunrise, fell three degrees below normal to 23.4 degrees Celsius on Friday.
Despite cloud cover, there was no significant rainfall on Friday. Weathermen have predicted rainfall due to development of thunderclouds on Saturday evening.
While Kerala continues to be battered by rainfall from the southwest
monsoon, western parts of Tamil Nadu received only light to moderate rainfall.
In the 24 hours until 8.30am on Friday, Sengottai (Tirunelveli) received 4cm rainfall, while
Chengalpattu (Kancheepuram), Chinnakalar (Coimbatore) and Periyar (Theni) received 3cm each. In the same period, Chennai recorded 1.4 cm rainfall.
The
met office has predicted a maximum of 36°Celsius on Saturday.
