Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury Concept Will, Thankfully, Remain Just A Study

Back in April, Mercedes took everyone by surprise with the unveiling of the Mayback Ultimate Luxury Concept at the Beijing Auto Show.

While we expected a study previewing the next generation GLS, it turned out to be a strange mix between an SUV and a sedan, with unparalleled levels of luxury to justify the Maybach moniker.

Its design is weird at best, yet still very imposing. Starting with the front end that sports a large grille, ‘Maybach’ lettering and slim LED headlights, and continuing with the interior, which is truly a lesson in opulence.

It can haul up to four occupants, each one sitting on an individual seat, and while those at the front will look at the minimalistic dashboard with a giant dual-screen taking center stage, rear passengers will travel in more comfort, as these are the ones this kind of vehicles are designed to appeal to.

There’s no V8 or V12 rumble to disturb the peace either, because the Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury Concept is powered by four electric motors that produce a combined output of 750PS (739hp / 551kW) and push it up to a top speed electronically limited at 250km/h (155mph). In between charges, the show car can travel for up to 500km (311mi) as per NEDC’s standards.

This will remain just a study, and we can’t say we’re sorry for it. Yet, it’s a fully functional prototype, so the following video provides us with a glimpse of the various features Mercedes put into it.
