Indore: Youth held for using others’ debit card details to boost his e-wallet


Indore: Police cyber cell arrested a person on Friday for copying debit card details of other persons in ATM booth to load money in his e-wallet. The accused had also bought mobile phones from money, which he fraudulently loaded in e-wallets.

Accused Ravi Parihar who has been arrested in this connection would reach ATM booth where he would note down debit card detail of person standing ahead of him on his palm. After this, he would load his e-wallet using same details.

Superintendent of Police (cyber cell) Jitendra Singh said that Depalpur resident Samandar Singh Chouhan had lodged a complaint in August 2015 that someone had used his debit card details for online shopping on Flipkart. A sum of Rs 5,552 was stolen from his card.


A case under Sections 420 of IPC, 66 (C), 66 (D) of IT Act was register against unidentified person. During the investigation, it was revealed that a person had bought two mobile phones using complainant’s ATM card number. Ravi Parihar of Giroda village in Depalpur tehsil had bought the mobile phones.

The address on which the order was delivered was traced by police when family members of Ravi informed that he is in jail in connection with a crime. Later, cell officials took Ravi in custody after taking court permission. He told cell officials that he used to shop online in 2015 from his own debit card when he got an idea to use other person’s debit card for buying anything online.

According to SP Singh, Ravi had stolen debit card details of other persons in Mhow, Dewas and Rau. He used to load money in Flipkart, Snapdeal and Mobikwik wallets to shop online. He was produced before the court from where he was sent to jail.
