more-in

The Delhi government has asked all schools here to observe “dry day” once a week, preferably on the last working day.

On “dry day”, coolers, flowerpots, birdbaths, water containers, scrap, stagnant water and other possible breeding sites will be checked to eliminate the possibility of mosquito breeding. The move aims to control vector-borne diseases.

Schools have also been told to designate a nodal teacher/ person in each school who will be responsible for all activities related to prevention and control of vector-borne diseases.

“Awareness among students by means of nukkad nataks, rallies, drawing competitions, dengue- related projects, assembly talks, dengue homework cards, etc., should be carried out throughout the year as well,” said the directive.

Head boys and head girls from senior classes have also been asked to supervise teams of 10-15 students, who will check the premises and surrounding of schools for mosquito breeding.

Students have been advised to wear clothes that cover their limbs, and use mosquito repellent creams/oils to prevent mosquito bites on exposed body parts during peak season.
