CHANDIGARH: A registered medical practitioner of
Yamunanagar allegedly pushed the 23-year-old son of his friend into a swollen
Yamuna on August 8 to avoid paying the money he owed them.
The incident came to light on Thursday, when cops booked the accused,Naresh Kumar, in a case of murder registered at Farakpur police station. A Yamunanagar court has remanded him in four-day police custody for the murder.
Police said the car in which Pintu had gone to meet him was recovered from the river. The body, though, is yet to be found, police said.
According to information, the case has been registered against Naresh on the complaint of Pintu’s father, Kanwar Pal. He said Naresh was his close friend and he owed Rs 7 lakh to him. On August 8, he had sent Pintu to Naresh’s house to collect the money.
Kanwar said he had spoken to Naresh and Pintu on his son’s mobile phone. He alleged that Naresh informed him about making the payment to his son. He said the family waited for Pintu till late in the evening but he did not return home. When they called on Naresh’s mobile phone, his wife took the call and said he had gone out with Pintu and left the cellphone at home.
“When Kanwar contacted Naresh again, he said Pintu left after dropping him at some place in the town. After registration of the case, Naresh was taken into custody. Initially, he kept misguiding everyone but confessed to killing Pintu after giving him a medicine-laced tea and then pushing him and his car into the river,” said
Anil Kumar, in-charge of Gandhi Nagar police post, and the investigating officer (IO) of the case.
Kumar said they recovered the car, a Maruti Suzuki
Swift, on Thursday evening. “Divers are on searching for the victim. We have also recovered the document against which Naresh had to make the payment and the medicines used by him to intoxicate Pintu,” the cop said.
