Director of management college held for posting fake appreciation letter from Prez on Facebook

The Delhi Police have arrested the director of a management college in Bengaluru for allegedly posting a fake letter from the President of India on his Facebook account. The case was registered a year ago but the accused was  abroad for more than year and had returned this month.

“The accused identified as Hari Krishan Maram, a middle aged man who runs 'Imperial College of Business' a management college in Bengaluru had allegedly posted the photo of an “appreciation letter” received from the President for a book he had authored on digital marketing to gain publicity. We had received a complaint by the President's Press Secretary last year regarding the letter posted on facebook,” said Anyesh Roy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Cyber Cell.

“During investigation by cyber cell we found that the letter which had President's appreciation letter was fake and the accused had posted the letter to gain publicity on social media for the book that he had supposedly written. He used to pose him as a management guru on social media sites,” said the DCP.

“The case was registered year ago but the accused Maram was in US. We had contacted him to join investigation but he refused following which we were keeping track on him. A city court had already issued a non-bailable warrant against him and police had even initiated proceedings to declare him a proclaimed offender. He had returned from US this month and was in Bengluru when he was arrested,” said DCP

He was produced in a city court on Thursday that sent him to judicial custody. “We have seized the laptop computer used to prepare the forged letter and it will be sent for forensic examination soon,” DCP added.
