Indore : Ahead of Independence Day, a 12-kilometre long Indian flag will be hoisted in the city on Sunday morning. It will be unfurled, which will cover areas from Mhow Naka square to Chankayapuri Square. Functions dedicated to nation will be organised along this stretch of road.
The family members of eminent freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Dr Gayaprashad Katiyar will be present in open jeep along the route.
Organising committee members Shankar Lalwani, Dr NK Dhakad and Aditi Singhal said the event will start from 8 am wherein people will display tricolor from both sides. Artists, singers, yoga teachers, sportsmen, doctors and other professionals will perform on the occasion. The music band of BSF, police, Satya Sai Vidhya Vihar and Gujarati School will play patriotic songs. More than 300 colleges affiliated to DAVV and more than 3,500 school students will participate in March past.
Four tableaux have been prepared by members of Sikhs, Nepalese Culture Council, Keralite Society and Bengali Society. People from Bohra, Muslim, Punjabi, Rajasthani, Bengali, Kashmiri, Nepali and other community will welcome participants.
Weapons used by Border Security Force will be displayed at Dussehra Maidan. This exhibition will remain open for visitors from 8 am to 10.30 am.
Lalwani said existing record of hoisting 10-km long tricolor was created in Mathura. Indore will create a new world record on Sunday.
For vehicles coming from collectorate, Gangawal bus stand and Malganj, the parking will be made at three ends at Mhow Naka square. Vehicles coming from Ranjednra Nagar can be parked close to Chanakyapuri Square and railway overbridge.
