The Delhi police appear to be taking no chances in ensuring incident-free Independence Day celebrations. They are on the lookout for possible threats through parcels transported through Indian Railways.
Anticipating that trouble-mongers may utilise the parcel mode to create trouble during the celebrations, the police have asked the Railways to restrict parcel movement towards Delhi close to Independence Day. Consequently, the Railways has imposed restrictions on parcel traffic towards the national capital. According to a communication dated August 7 from Northern Railway to the principal chief commercial managers of all zonal railways, the restrictions will be in place from August 12 to 15. Keeping in view of security arrangements, the police have imposed restriction on all types of parcel transaction in the Delhi area, it said.
The stations to which parcel traffic is restricted include New Delhi, Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi Sarai Rohilla, and Adarsh Nagar.
Sources in Southern Railway and South Western Railway told The Hindu that booking of all kinds of parcel between August 12 and 15 was not being accepted. The zonal headquarters have sent directions in this regard to the divisions under them, sources added.
