LUCKNOW: Accusing the ruling BJP of misusing public money in the name of appointing 'Lok Kalyan Mitras' (LKM) to propagate government schemes, BSP chief Mayawati on Saturday said that the decision clearly indicated that the ruling party considers its cadre and RSS as 'dead'.

The UP cabinet on Tuesday had given its nod to appointment of a LKM in every 822 development block for a period of one year. Each LKM is proposed to be given a salary of Rs 25,000 plus another Rs 5,000 as other allowance.

Mayawati said that the decision showed that the state government has completely failed on its promise to deliver public services despite spending crores and crores on publicity. "This shows that the party cadre has turned completely inactive and the party is considering it as dead," the former UP chief minister said, adding that the state government intended to appease a selected few people closer to the ruling dispensation.

The BSP chief said that despite all the publicity, the schemes initiated by the ruling BJP at the Centre and the state were not reaching down to the people who actually needed them. "The state is turning backward and the government schemes are being rendered to just papers and the people have lost the trust in government," she said.

The BSP chief response comes days after SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said that the state government sought to appoint RSS workers as LKMs, The issue is likely to be raked up by the opposition in the forthcoming monsoon session of UP assembly scheduled from August 23.

Mayawati also attacked the state government accusing it of failing to control law and order situation and security of women in the state. Insisting that instead of fooling people through laying of foundation stones, the state government should make budgetary provision for government schemes and ensure their proper and timely implementation.

Maintaining that `Acche Din' were still a distant dream, Mayawati said that it was high time for the Centre to keep its promise of playing a crucial role in ensuring an all round development of the state and providing employment to the youth.
