CM lays foundation stone of Martyrs’ Memorial Pillar

The soil collected from the birthplaces of martyrs from across the State was handed over to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here on Thursday, following which he laid the foundation-stone of  Martyrs’ Memorial Pillar in the State capital.

The memorial is being erected in the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the nation. The pillar would come up at the Swadhinata Sangrami Sadan here.

On the occasion of the Quit India Movement, a programme was organised to celebrate the historic part of the freedom struggle. Soil from as many as 38 Smruti Pithas were collected, said Martyrs’ Memorial Trust secretary Upendra Nath Padhi.

Swadhinata Sangrami Samiti president Bhabani Charan Patnaik chaired the meeting at which several Ministers were present. All India Freedom Fighters Youth Front president and BJD MP Bhartruhari Mahtab gave out details on the freedom movement in Odisha. Front general secretary Birupakshya Tripathy offered a vote of thanks.
