LUCKNOW: Three labourers were trapped when portion of an under construction bridge collapsed in
Basti district around 7.30 am on Saturday. The trapped labourers were later rescued by the relief teams. The under construction bridge is part of a project of National Highway Authority of India and situated at Phutaiyya crossing in Basti city.
Basti District Magistrate (DM), Raj Shekhar, said the three labourers trapped under the debris have been rescued and rushed to the hospital where one of them was admitted with suspected leg fracture while the other two were discharged after first-aid. “We have informed the concerned authorities of NHAI,” Shkehar told the media.
According to the injured labourer, who was also doubling up as the security guard of the site, only three persons were present at the site when the mishap occurred and they were rescued along with him. “We had gathered around 7am for the 8am shift. Had the incident taken place about an hour later, there would have been around 40 labourers at the site,” the injured labourer told officers at the hospital.
Unconfirmed reports said iron structure on which the under construction bridge was resting was hit by a truck a day ago which could have probably led to the mishap. Authorities said the reasons which led to the collapse was a matter of investigations. Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath has directed the officials to ensure proper medical treatment of the injured and had sought a detailed report from the district authorities.
