South civic body not to take toll tax for next 36 days

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has decided not to charge toll tax from vehicles entering into Delhi for the next  36 days because of ongoing work to install "Radio Frequency Identification Device" (RFID) technology at all 13 toll plazas points covering 65 toll lanes. However, during this period ECC (Environment Compassionate Charges) will be charged from specified commercial vehicles during the period.

Rai informed that very soon congestion and confusion at toll booth on toll plazas over collection of toll tax will soon end after completion of the work of installation of RFID technology. "This technology will be used at all 13 toll points from where 85% of vehicles entering Delhi pass through, this move is expected to decrease pollution in city," she said.

Rai further stated that RFID cards will be issued to the owners of the vehicle who will be charged regularly.  At the time of issuing the tag, we will collect all the details of the vehicle.  This will help us to separate vehicles that have to pay only toll tax and those that have to pay ECC, she said.

She also said that this RFID system will work faster as compare to the manual process of collecting toll tax and it will also help reducing traffic snarls at toll plazas.  "This initiative is taken following the instruction of Supreme Court on 22 August 2016 to modernize toll tax collection by introducing RFID based system at its toll plazas," she added.

Rai said that we often receive complaints from toll points about drivers that they do not pay toll tax, this technology will definitely improve our toll tax collection and drivers will not be spared from toll tax payments.
