NEW DELHI: A day after Delhi cabinet approved the CCTV project, chief minister
Arvind Kejriwal fear sabotage of the project by the BJP. The CM has claimed on
Twitter that a BJP leader had told him that his party was exploring options like lodging a CBI case against the project or making the LG refer the project to the President.
"A BJP leader has told me that BJP will not let the CCTVs be installed. The BJP is working on two options: 1. Lodge a fake case in CBI and seize all the files and stop the project, 2. LG refer this issue to the President," he tweeted on Saturday. In the same tweet, he stressed that "people will never tolerate if BJP stops the project."
Delhi BJP chief
Manoj Tiwari, however, rubbished the allegations and said, "BJP MPs have been installing CCTV cameras in different parts of the city while AAP government has been unable to install CCTV cameras in the last three years. It is an irresponsible statement from the CM." Tiwari said he was ready to sit for a dialogues with Kejriwal to address his "unfounded apprehensions."
AAP government on Friday cleared the proposal to install 1.4 lakh CCTVs across the capital. The project is likely to cost Delhi government Rs 571.40 crore, which includes a capital cost of Rs 320.96 crore and maintenance cost of Rs 250.44 crore for a period of five years. The AAP government had given in principal approval in October 2015 but it could be cleared only now because, Kejriwal alleged, of the Centre’s "delaying tactics".
