ROURKELA: The chairman of the board of governors at NIT Rourkela, Santrupt Mishra, said the proposal of opening a medical college and a super-speciality hospital is being looked into by NIT officials who aim to formally apply to the Medical Council of India for permission for the same.

"There are various areas like facilities, funding, infrastructure and regulations, that need to be examined before opening a medical college and super-speciality hospital at the NITR campus," said Mishra.

"Don't write off NITR, since we are seriously working on meeting the requirements," he added. Responding to questions at a press conference, Mishra said the institution will be able to get a clear picture on the project's prospects by June 2019. "As you know, the NIT Act needs to be amended in the Parliament before we can offer an MBBS course," he said.
