Ujjain: Drizzle heralds return of rain


Ujjain: City dwellers enjoyed return of rain after a fortnight. Drizzling started from Thursday afternoon and turned into rain by Friday evening. According to government Jiwajirao observatory 28 millimetre rain was recorded. The weatherman said that the current spell of monsoon will continue as the system has been activated in the Bay of Bengal. The city has received 586mm rain in this season he added.

In the morning, the intensity of rain was quite high which tepered down to intermittent rain till evening. Main roads across the city were flooded with rainwater. Knee-deep water was seen in Topikhana, Naisadak, Gadapuliya, Indoregate, KD gate and lower area colonies of the city.

Rain gave farmers a reason to smile as it is beneficial for their soybean crop and protect it from plant pathgens. According to information crop has been sown on over 50,000 hectares. The maximum temperature dropped due to rain in the region by 2.5 degrees Celsius. It was recorded at 28 degrees on Thursday which come down to 25.5 degrees on Friday, said Government Jiwajirao Observatory.


The recent rain did not make much difference to water level of main resource of potable water of the city Gambhir Dam. The water level at the dam was recorded 1123.456 McFt. According to deputy commissioner, land record office, during the monsoon season this year, from June 1 to August 10, Ujjain division has received more than 19-inch of rain.

Under the division, Neemuch district recorded highest rainfall of more than 23-inch. Dewas district has reported lowest rainfall of 16-inch. So far, the average rainfall in the division is 493.5 mm (more than 19-inch). In the same period last year, the average rainfall in Ujjain division was 484.7 mm (more than 19-inch).
