Ranchi Rail Division introduces ‘Train Captain’

In an attempt to provide better services to onboard passengers and to improve the co-ordination among the senior managerial team, the South-Eastern Railway (SER), Ranchi Division, introduced onboard “Train Captain” service for all long distance trains on August 9.

 Hatia-Islampur Express (Train Number 18624) got the first ‘Train Captain’. According to the officials, soon all the 14 trains of Ranchi Division will have ‘Train Captains’ to manage the essentials affairs. P K Banerjee,Train Ticket Examiner, became the first ‘Train Captain’ of Ranchi Rail Division. In the presence of Senior Railway Officials, Banerjee, board the train as ‘Train Captain’. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Vijay Kumar Gupta along with other senior officials of Ranchi Rail Division was present on the occasion and gave best wishes to the first ‘Train Captain’.

“The prime objective of introducing ‘Train Captain’ service is to address the grievances of passengers instantly and maintain co-ordination among the officials of different departments for providing better services,” said Senior PRO Ranchi Rail Division, Suhas Lokhare.

Lokhare stated that on the recommendation of Railway Board, the concept of ‘Train Captain’ has been introduced here. Further, Lokhare added that ‘Train Captains’ will be responsible for managing all basic affairs provided by Indian Railways to the passengers. Services ranging from availability of water, bed-rolls  to checking the working of electric appliances, the senior most Train Ticket Examiners would now lend their services as ‘Train Captains’ strengthening the rail grievances redressal system.

According to the Senior PRO, the service of ‘Train Captains’ will soon cover all the rail divisions of the country. Sharing elaborately about the role of ‘Train Captains’, Lokhare further added, “All railway personnel and supervisors have to report to ‘Train Captains’ on daily basis and try to resolve the grievances in a stimulated time. As per the recommendations of Rail Board, the details of ‘Train Captains’ which includes names and contact numbers will be provided to the passengers. In case of any inconvenience, passengers can directly report to the ‘Train Captains.”
