Student leaders present grim realities of State schools

After pedalling across the length and breadth of the district in a 11-day cycle yatra, the Students Federation of India (SFI) leaders staged a demonstration here on Friday, seeking prompt action to address the inadequacies in critical infrastructure and issues affecting students in State-run schools including quite a few Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) and SC, ST and BC welfare hostels and colleges all over the district.

Some of the demonstrators tried to enter into the Collectorate to represent the students’ grievances to the authorities but were prevented by the strong posse of police outside.

Giving a detailed account of the findings of their field visit across 21 mandals and four towns in the district, the SFI district president Ch. Ramesh said the field study revealed the stark realities of abysmal lack of basic facilities like toilets, drinking water, quality food, healthcare facilities, in several State-run residential schools and welfare hostels.

In Kamepalli, KGBV and the BC hostel for girls functioned from a congested building subjecting the students to untold hardships, he said.
