Eighteen years after a murder accused went into hiding, the Sipcot police tracked and arrested him.

On March, 13, 2000, a Sub-Inspector received information about the half-burnt body of a 40-year-old man dumped on GND Road. Clueless about the identity, the police team sent it the Government General Hospital for post-mortem.

Ten days later, the police identified the deceased as Dawar Singh of Akera village, Jalwara district, Rajasthan, after a family came to the station to register a complaint. Singh owned a goods lorry . The driver Mangubhai alias Abdul Saleem, and cleaner Prem Chand, who had accompanied Singh, were missing. With the help of the family, the police managed to trace Prem Chand in Rajasthan , but were not able to apprehend Mangubhai. After R.Ponni took over as SP of Tiruvallur, a team led by SI V. Senthil Murugan was deputed to Rajasthan which finally apprehended Mangubhai, 42, in Jalwara two days ago and brought him to Gummidipoondi. The accused had attacked Singh for refusing to part with money.
