Even though police have intensified security needs in the Chitakonda region following the opening of the Gurupriya Bridge in Malkangiri district, Maoists gunned down a Postmaster at Kamalapadar village under the Chitrakonda police station late on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Narayan Polasi, who had been posted at the Papuluru Sub-Post Office.

“Around 10 to 15 armed Maoists came to the village at around 11 pm and dragged Polasi out from his residence and killed him

dubbing him as a police informer. The Red rebels alleged that he was passing information about their movements to the police,” said a villager on the condition of anonymity.

The Maoists also left a poster at the spot claiming responsibility for the killing and threatening people not to work for police, failing which they would meet the same fate. The incident has again triggered panic among the locals.
